Anne Veldman
Since her childhood, Anne was interested in (especially the difficult) things in life. Her parents had difficulties, she had them as well as her friends.
At an early age she tried to discover how things worked in life, especially because she wanted to improve her life. Trained to be a nurse in an academic hospital, VU in Amsterdam, she worked in 2 different psychiatric institutions.
What struck her most, was that patients hardly ever were addressed on an emotional level and often ‘sedated’ with medication. Also electroshocks were used. When somebody cried, he was tranquillized. Very little personal contact was being given, there was too much “authority”, which determined the problem. There was very little ‘true’ healing.
That’s how she became a therapist; From the beginning she experienced this type of therapy, first applied to herself and later on many, many others, as a big advantage. In contrary to what she used to notice in psychiatry, this type of therapy is warm, safe, customized, and very private.
Throughout the years she continued to refine and improve this method of therapy, also energetically. The result is a unique form of treatment that can be applied to every ‘healthy’ person to a certain degree of succes. Anne Veldman described her life’s work, Directed Emotion Therapy, in the book “The Change”.
